Biography
Hailing from
the Arles region of Southern France, the home of their
Gypsy tribe, the Gitanes, Gitano Family has toured
the world and spread the infectious sound of traditional
Rhumba Flamenco music. Gitano Family was originally
formed by Julio Romero and François Amador, veterans
of the famed Gypsy group The Reyes, also the roots of
El Gitano Reyes, better known as The Gipsy Kings.
Deeply engaged
in the centuries old traditions of their people, Gitano
Family brings both skillful musicianship and
a breathless enthusiasm to the “el ventilator” guitar
technique and the hand clapped Gypsy Compas rhythms.
The group consists of seven guitarists, including
leader (and former bullfighter) Julio Romero, Francois
Canut Amador, Canut Reyes, Titi Paul Reyes, Julio
Miguel Romero, Joseph Gautier and Mario Reyes. Joining
this group - the core of the Gitano Family sound
- are 4 other musicians, including bass and percussion,
plus a trio of traditional dancers.
Gitano
Family’s riveting live show has been
seen across Europe, South America, and North Africa
including appearances in Germany, England, Spain,
Italy, Luxembourg, Morroco, Tunisia, Venezuela
and, of course, their native France. They have
been appeared in major media including French Canal+,
France 2 and 3, Arte, Rai Uno, Sat 1 and Tf1, plus
Le Figaro and Paris Match. They have been heard
on radio across France, and in the feature film
Joséphine et les Gitanes.
