Serenity
Michael Hoppé & Harold Moses
I first worked with the outstanding violist Harold Moses when recording The Unforgetting
Heart.
One of the most requested tracks on the album was an improvisation called Eventide
featuring Tim Wheater and Harold Moses. It was the first time I had heard his exceptional skills.
Later Harold also played on my Grammy nominated album Solace performing Farewell,
a song I wrote for my father shortly before he died.
After I had recorded Afterglow with Martin Tillman and Tim Wheater,
a multi award winning album which contains some of my most favorite music,
I decided to make an album with Harold featuring his superb improvisational skills.
Even though there was no particular plan of what I was going to play, Harold followed my chord
sequence effortlessly.
The music was performed in one pass, without edits or re-recording, and very much in the now…
SERENITY begat serenity, and I am especially proud of this album and its effortless nature.
As Harold wrote “Playing music with Michael is a pleasurable and effortless journey.
It is the musical equivalent of two friends enjoying a peaceful morning walk alongside a gentle
stream.” A picture of serenity indeed…
